Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is required for every Wakali Safaris trip, not just recommended.

Why it's required, not optional

Our booking terms require comprehensive travel insurance for every client — it isn't included in the trip price, and we ask you to arrange it once your deposit is paid. This isn't a formality: safaris happen in genuinely remote areas, and Kilimanjaro climbs happen at altitude, both of which carry real medical and logistical risk that a standard domestic health plan won't cover.

What your policy should cover

At minimum, look for cover that includes medical expenses and emergency evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, and loss of personal belongings. If you're climbing Kilimanjaro, confirm your policy specifically covers high-altitude trekking — many standard policies cap cover below the altitudes reached on the mountain.

Evacuation cover specifically

Emergency evacuation cover is the one item we'd never let a client skip. Many of our safari areas are hours from the nearest hospital by road; air evacuation membership through a service like the Flying Doctors (AMREF) is a sensible addition alongside your insurance policy, not a replacement for it — see our Flying Doctors Services page for detail.

What we're not liable for

Under our booking terms, Wakali Safaris isn't liable for loss, damage or expense arising from a client's failure to obtain adequate insurance. It's a genuinely important box to tick, and we'll ask about it before your balance is due.
